Things to do in Skibbereen

For visitors to Skibbereen, Annie Mays B&B is in the prime location being just down the street from the bus stop and right in the centre of the town, which means we are amidst the main attractions, shops, galleries, pubs and noted cafes of the town.

Skibbereen, a prosperous and historical town set amidst the beautiful scenic region of West Cork is known as the regions capital, highlighting all the attractions of the area in its many festivals, art and garden centres, pubs and top class eating establishments.


For history buffs the award-winning Skibbereen Heritage Centre is just a few minutes’ walk away and provides 2 permanent multimedia exhibitions on the Irish famine in Skibbereen and on Ireland’s First Marine Nature Reserve Lake in neighbouring Lough Hyne and for the Art enthusiast, Skibbereen plays host to many galleries throughout the town and is home to the main centre for arts in West Cork, Skibbereen Arts Centre.

Along with its many attractions and amenities Skibbereen is ideally located for accessing all of the many attractions of West Cork; such as the scenic region of Lough Hyne which is only 4km away. Set in stunning scenery this marine lake and nature reserve offers many opportunities to go swimming and  diving, while the scenery around offers a number of interesting walks.  Climb to the top of Mount Knockoumah overlooking the lake and take in some stunning views of the lake and the surrounding coastline.

The neighbouring coastal fishing villages of Baltimore, Glandore, Union Hall and Castletownsend are all within 10-15 minutes drive away and  offer many attractions and activities including whale watching tours, sea kayaking, sailing and scuba diving and slightly further away but still within a 30 minute drive are the towns of Schull and Bantry of the Mizen and Beara peninsulas offering even more breathtaking views and scenery.
